The Marketing Strategy Series – Interview with Nichola Stott: Episode 4

Today, I’m thrilled to present a really thorough and really fun interview with Nichola Stott, founder of SEO agency Erudite.

With Erudite, Nichola provides SEO, CRO, UX, and web analytics services to the world’s best businesses. The aim, says Nichola, is to make the web more accessible for everyone.

Web commerce doesn’t have to be a fight, in which brands wrestle with customer attention spans to win conversions. Erudite works to make the web a place of value for companies and consumers alike.

Nichola’s ethos is reflected in her business’ four core values: Intellectual curiosity; Research & development; Flexibility; Transparency. This honest, open, and adaptable mindset shone through in her interview, in which (as you’ll see!) she was charmingly open and frank.

There was plenty for us to discuss, from the demands of running a modern SEO agency to the importance of educating clients, and even the lessons we can learn from Cuthbert and Colin the Caterpillar Cakes. You can watch my chat with Nichola on the Let’sTalk Strategy YouTube channel or, if audio-only is more your style, listen via Soundcloud.

I’ve broken the interview up with timestamps below, so you can easily return to your favourite bits:

  • How did you get into marketing in the first place? 0:25
  • What does your role involve? Is running an SEO agency crazy in this Google-led world? 2:03
  • What advice would you give to aspiring marketeers? 4:19
  • What key challenges do you see from a client perspective when implementing a marketing strategy? 5:59
  • The importance (and difficulties!) of educating clients. 8:57
  • Have you seen any changes in the way people approach SEO in the past 5-10 years? 9:56
  • How has the Covid 19 pandemic affected the brands you work with? 11:58
  • What do you think are the most common pitfalls a marketeer faces, and how can they overcome them? 14:23
  • Are there any go-to resources you would recommend for marketers who want to keep up to date? 15:15

I’d like to give a massive thank you to Nichola for taking part in this interview with me. If you want to know more about Nichola and her work, check out the Erudite website or head over to her LinkedIn page.
